thank you to all who have made our first year a success!

Staten Island Catholic Worker accomplishments this year:

– We have established two successful monthly outreaches with our community meal every first Sunday and our sandwich making and distribution at the park on the last Saturdays of every month.

– Our missionary house was able to host pilgrims, missionaries and guests in Great Kills where our sandwiches are made each month for our park outreach.

– SI Catholic Worker has sponsored the beginning of the Staten Island chapter of the Off the Streets Program which is now up and running helping the homeless one person at a time transition into permanent housing.

– Our monthly prayer group and roundtable discussions have been ongoing with the publication of our prayer pamphlet distributed to all parishes on SI.

– We have successfully begun outreach to our most vulnerable children by helping to provide stability and support to families who foster and adopt through our Springs of Love mission.

– We had our first successful community building fundraiser/educational event for the SI community on the life and work of Dorothy Day with our Art Show & Crafts last April

– Our Peace Project had a prayer gathering and many Masses celebrated for Peace & Justice at several churches on Staten Island.

– Our weekly Wednesday soup kitchen is growing strong, and the Knights of Malta will soon allow us use of a van to help with transportation!

– A state of the art website was built by a very generous donor and our blog has continuously been updated, focusing on events and education on social issues.

– Four classes at LaSalle Academy High School for boys learned about Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin and the Catholic Worker Movement as part of their guest lecturer series.

-Our newsletters have gone digital reaching hundreds each month with updates on all of our projects and plans.

If this is all we have accomplished in one year, you can imagine what we can accomplish with your support to reach our long-term goals of having a van and a House of Hospitality one day!
